South Africa will begin a multi-format tour of Pakistan on October 12. Both teams would play each other in a few Test matches, three Twenty20 Internationals, and an equal number of One-Day Internationals.
In addition, this will be Pakistan’s first tour for the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle. Following a dismal performance in the last edition of the premier Test calendar, the hosts would like to start well. Given that the Proteas defeated Australia handily in the finals at Lord’s in June 2025 to become the current WTC champions, the challenge would be significantly greater.
The iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the first Test, while Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host the second. The teams will return to Lahore for the remaining two matches in the shortest format after Rawalpindi hosts the first Twenty20 International. The final part of the tour will consist of three One-Day Internationals after this.
After 17 long years, 50-over international cricket will return to Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium for the first ODI, which is sure to be a mouthwatering affair. The moment of delight is finally arriving after years of arduous efforts by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring cricket back to the site. Updates regarding the series’ squads were not released by PCB, but they should be revealed soon.
“We are excited to host South Africa for the first series of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship. Our players and supporters will be treated to top-notch cricket as we begin the new cycle against the reigning Test champions. It is a unique occasion because ODI cricket is returning to Faisalabad after a 17-year absence. In an official release, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed Syed said, “We are thrilled to bring international cricket back to this part of the country, as Iqbal Stadium holds a proud place in our cricketing history.”
