Indian-born Nepal head coach Monty Desai is thrilled that his team is competing in such a renowned event as the Asia Cup and is looking forward to the players challenging pre-tournament favorites Pakistan and India. In a relatively short period of time, Nepal has made significant progress in international cricket. After defeating the UAE in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup in April, they were the first team to qualify for the Asia Cup.
They also displayed some of their promise in the ICC ODI World Cup Qualifier. They are grouped with the other Asian juggernauts, Pakistan and India, in Group A of the 2023 Asia Cup. The ability to interact with some of the best players in contemporary cricket, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and others, will be available to Rohit Paudel’s team.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to compete against two cricket-playing nations with a rich history. Additionally, we are now linked to the past. I’m ecstatic to compete against Pakistan and India. I believe we have already gone through it in World Cup qualifying, much like Test-playing countries. Ireland, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies were the opponents we faced. Therefore, playing now against Pakistan and India is another chance for them to demonstrate their skills and make a compelling case for why they belong here. That, in my opinion, is the cause of the commotion in our cheerful dressing room.
During an interview with News 18 Cricket Next, Monty Desai said.
“The changing room has a really competitive vibe. They are exceptionally talented athletes… It all comes down to having a one-ball mentality when dealing with these athletes. Who is batting or bowling doesn’t matter. How well we can showcase our advantages during those skill executions will determine the outcome. Challenge of skill vs. skill.
Nepal’s 2023 Asia Cup campaign gets underway against Pakistan. At the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on Wednesday, August 30, Rohit Paudel and company will face Pakistan to open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign. These two sides will now meet for the first time.
As their final group match is against India on September 4 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, Nepal will have some time to rest up after this match. Cricket fans from all around the world will be interested in seeing how Nepal’s players fare against international powers like India and Pakistan in the six-team event.
