The transfer agreement between the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans to hire ace all-arounder Hardik Pandya prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League has captured the attention of the cricket world. In the 17th iteration of the competition, Pandya will be guiding the five-time winners.

Following the completion of the deal, a report from The Indian Express surfaced, speculating that the Mumbai Indians had paid a significant transfer fee for the all-round player. The amount paid to the Gujarat Titans to release Hardik Pandya has been reported to be INR 100 crore, though no precise figure was given.

We also learned that the 2025 tournament’s massive auction was a major contributing factor in the acquisition of Hardik Pandya by the Mumbai Indians.

Choosing Pandya as the team’s leader seems like a sensible move for the five-time champions, who are trying to build their core group for the future with former captain Rohit Sharma nearing the end of his playing days.

Additionally, the Gujarat Titans benefited in a number of ways from the sale of Pandya. While a business family controls MI, GT is not; in 2021, CVC Capital paid INR 5625 crore to be a part of the IPL. Notably, Gujarat’s purse increased by INR 15 crore as a result of the Pandya trade pact.

At the conclusion of the fiscal year, the profits from the Pandya deal will be reflected on CVC Capital’s balance sheet, which is anticipated to cause a surge in the company’s worth.

The Mumbai Indians, who won the IPL for the last time in 2020, will be hoping to bounce back from a few disappointing seasons with a strong showing in the 17th edition of the competition. It will be intriguing to watch how Pandya’s presence affects the five-time winners.
