On Monday, May 8, the Cricket Improvement Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the hiring of Omkar Salvi as the team’s head coach for the 2023–24 domestic season. Salvi, who is presently a member of the Indian Premier League’s Kolkata Knight Riders, will join Mumbai’s senior men’s squad as soon as the lucrative league concludes.
Former Mumbai batsman Vinit Indulkar has been named the team’s batting coach, while former wicketkeeper-batsman Omkar Salvi will serve as the fielding instructor. The 34-year-old has played 16 first-class matches and scored 434 runs, whereas Indulkar has played 43 first-class matches and 32 List-A matches, giving him significantly more experience.
Notably, Salvi has previously served as the bowling mentor for the Mumbai team. However, this time he will be replacing Amol Muzumdar as captain and will be attempting to bring back the Ranji Trophy, which the city has won 41 times previously.
Dinesh Lad was named head coach of the U-19 team, while Rajesh Powar will hold the same position at the U-23 level. Lad, who has coached the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur in the past, is an excellent acquisition because he has a great deal of experience developing young players into potential superstars.
Sandesh Kawle has been appointed as the head coach of the U-16 team, while Nilesh Masurkar will act in the same capacity for the U-14 squad. Former India cricketer Sunetra Paranjpe has been appointed as the new coach of the women’s team. She has played for the national team in three Tests and 28 one-day internationals. She has amassed 355 runs and 11 wickets in the process.
Meanwhile, Jayesh Dadarkar will lead the Under-23 squad, while Ajay Kadam and Aparna Kambli have been named head instructors of the Under-19 and Under-15 girls’ teams, respectively.
Sameer Dighe will be in command of MCA Academy, while Vinayak Mane and Pradeep Sunderam will serve as batting and bowling coaches, respectively. The fielding instructor is now Sunil Lingayat.
