Ollie Pope silences detractors with a century against India, saying, "I have tried to let outside noise not affect me"

Ollie Pope, the third-ranked batter for England, disclosed that he used his natural game to regain his form. At Headingley, Leeds, the 27-year-old batsman hit a century in the opening innings against India. Pope calmed doubters with a cool 106 on Day 2 of the first Test, despite his previous dearth of runs.

The vice captain of England had been under fire for his patchy play in the previous season. The squad decided to support the Surrey batter, despite some calling for Jacob Bethell to be given an opportunity at the position. This move has paid off handsomely.

“To be honest, I’ve made an effort to keep it from affecting me too much. During the press conference, Ollie Pope stated, “I know that a lot has probably been said, but for me, I’ve just been trying to make sure my game is in as good a place as possible, and when I get in, I try to make sure I make the most of it.”

“I’ve tried to let the outside noise do its thing and just try to make sure my game keeps improving, and I get my headspace in a good place too,” he said.

Despite his century, Ollie Pope stays grounded and concentrates on helping his team win the game.

Although edging a delivery is always a possibility, he acknowledged that his goal is to take each game as it comes and keep improving to solidify his spot in the squad.

“Look, there’s a lot of work to be done, and the series is just getting started. Additionally, Ollie Pope stated, “I believe that’s just the way. I’ve had some really good series and some not-so-good series.”

“I suppose you might get a ball with your name on it starting at number three, and you might believe I’m out of nick when you’re not. I believe my strategy is to simply try to play each game as it comes and, yes, hopefully, keep solidifying that position,” he said in closing.
