Spotlight on off-color Shakib Al Hasan amid injury rumours

Bangladesh's allrounder may be playing in the Chennai Test with spinning finger and shoulder pain.

Shakib Al is trying everything he can to get his form back: Najmul Shanto

Questions have been expressed over Shakib Al Hasan‘s participation in the current Chennai Test match against India due to his lack of overs and reports that he is dealing with several injuries. Shakib bowled seven overs on the third day after captain Najmul Hossain Shanto pulled him into the attack a bit late. On Saturday, Shakib became the oldest Test cricket player in Bangladeshi history. Uncharacteristically, Shakib was smashed for six fours and two sixes by Rishabh Pant.

Ultimately, Shakib concluded with the highest match figures of his Test career. Additionally, despite delivering at least 20 overs in a Test, it was only the fifth time Shakib had gone wicketless in the match. The former Indian left-arm spinner Murali Kartik revealed on radio that Shakib had told him about discomfort on his spinning finger and shoulder as Shanto kept him off the attack for the majority of the morning session on Saturday.

“Having seen him and known him for such a long period of time, I did go up to him and ask the reason why he has not bowled enough,” Kartik stated. Additionally, I totally agree with what he said to me. His left hand’s bowling finger, or the tip of the finger, had finger surgery.

It is bloated, stiff, and devoid of any suppleness or movement. He believes he isn’t experiencing anything as a result. You need that emotion to be a spinner. In addition, he is experiencing shoulder problems, so there is a combination of both. It is difficult to bowl in Test cricket, where you need to have spinner’s feel.”

Shakib was hurt during Bangladesh’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka last year, specifically in his left index finger. A shoulder injury kept him out of the same tournament’s play against India. After missing several months of activity due to a finger injury, Shakib’s eye issue also caused him to miss further time with the Bangladeshi team.

Later, Tamim Iqbal stated on radio that Bangladesh is playing with a bowler short if they intentionally selected Shakib Al Hasan despite the pain in his spinning finger.

“Shakib is experiencing problems grasping the ball because of this finger injury, according to Murali Kartik. In that scenario, Bangladesh has four front-line bowlers in its lineup. Tamim stated, “The team management needs to disclose whether or not they were aware of this injury.

Nonetheless, Dr. Debashish, the chief medical officer of BCB, stated that they are not aware of Shakib’s discomfort as a result of the finger or shoulder injury.

“Shakib had a fracture in his finger from the World Cup in India,” he stated. He had an infection from a previous finger injury a few years prior to that. However, Shakib hasn’t recently complained of a shoulder or finger issue. Nonetheless, a fractured finger might hurt.”

There are worries that Shakib might have gone above and beyond in the last several weeks. Last week, he bowled 63.2 overs for Surrey in a county match played in Taunton. After Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, he had flown to the UK, played the match, and arrived in Chennai just a day before the opening Test.

Shakib was out to an unfortunate reverse sweep shortly after Litton Das was out in the first innings of the Test, in addition to failing to take a wicket. In addition, Shakib is experimenting with his batting technique by chewing down on a strap around his neck, ostensibly to prevent his head from toppling over while he plays the ball.
