Angelo Mathews, an experienced all-rounder from Sri Lanka, recently set an unwelcome landmark by becoming the first player to be timed out in an international cricket match. The event occurred on November 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, during Sri Lanka’s match against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
One minute and fifty seconds after the wicket fell, Angelo Mathews could be seen arriving at the crease in the video that he released.
Notably, the umpire called him out in this manner after Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan requested a time out. Following the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama, Mathews arrived to the crease. Five seconds later, though, the strap of his helmet comes off as he begs for another one. Later, he was even spotted conversing with Shakib, but the Bangladeshi captain was unwavering in his decision-making, and the umpire had to obey the law as a result.
He posted a brief video of the incident on the microblogging site X, revealing Shakib approaching the umpire to file an appeal before the two-minute time limit ran out.

4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this please? I mean safety is paramount as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet
