Twitter reactions: England defeats Australia in a superb ODI series thanks to Nat Sciver-Brunt's century

But captain Heather Knight and all-arounder Nat Sciver-Brunt managed to stabilize the early setback.ย  With England winning the ODI series in a chase that was hampered by rain, the Women’s Ashes 2023 came to a conclusion. Even though Australia kept the Ashes, Heather Knight’s England may be proud of how they played during the multi-format series.

On Tuesday, July 18, the County Ground in Taunton hosted the third and final ODI of the series. After losing the toss and electing to bat, England had a disastrous start to their innings as openers Tammy Beaumont and Sophia Dunkley were both dismissed for just two and four runs, respectively.

Knight scored 67 runs in 72 deliveries, while Nat Sciver-Brunt then expertly scored 129 runs in 149 deliveries. Furthermore, the hosts scored 285 runs in the first innings thanks to a late surge of 43 runs from Danni Wyatt.

In the first innings, Ashleigh Gardner and Jess Jonassen each took three wickets for Australia, while Megan Schutt and Alana King each managed one.

Ellyse Perry’s valiant attempts to outrun the downpour were in vain.

Australia attempted to chase down a lowered target of 269 runs in 44 overs while weather stopped play. The tourists, it seems, weren’t prepared for what England had in store for them. Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy, the two openers, both had terrible games, managing just seven and one run, respectively.

After the openers were dismissed early, Ellyse Perry played a tenacious knock, scoring 53 runs in 58 deliveries. 26 more runs were added to the score by Tahlia McGrath. Ashleigh Gardner stepped up and scored 41 runs in 24 deliveries when the batting order appeared to be about to collapse as a result of the top order’s failure to score heavily.

The Australian hitters worked together, but it wasn’t enough to chase down the target; they were dismissed for just 199 runs, and England won the match by 69 runs using the DLS system to wrap up the Women’s Ashes 2023. Australia, who was the incumbent champion, kept the Ashes trophy even though the series concluded in an 8-8 draw.
