Ben Sawyer, the head coach of New Zealand Women and a well-known coach in Australia’s domestic circuit, was reappointed as coach for an additional two years, granting him a contract extension. Sawyer is notable for having led the White Ferns to their first-ever T20 World Cup victory in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. Notably, they had won the summit battle against the ladies of South Africa.
Sawyer will continue to provide his services until December 2026, it was disclosed. He will therefore be in charge of team matters for the forthcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India at the end of the following year. He will also assist the team in getting ready for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will take place in England.
“I’m thrilled that Ben Sawyer has decided to rejoin us.
He has done a tremendous amount of work for women’s cricket in New Zealand and with the White Ferns group. Sophie Devine, the limited-overs captain of the New Zealand Women, “I think locking him in for another two years and having that consistency will be big for us because the team is in a great spot right now.”
For those who are unaware, Ben Sawyer previously worked with Australia Women before being named head coach of the White Ferns, popularly known as the New Zealand Women. This appointment was signed in June 2022 and was for a period of two years. Following the conclusion of the India tour in October of this year, this stint came to an end.
Unbelievably, the White Ferns had a dismal start to 2024, winning only one Twenty20 International out of 13 games played in the shortest format before to competing in the 2024 T20 World Cup. But in a stunning turnabout, Sawyer unleashed the Kiwis’ winning potential just in time to bring them back to their heyday.
“Ben signing on for another two years makes us very happy. He has given this group a great deal of faith and confidence, thus it is crucial for the current team as well as the White Ferns’ long-term strategy that he stays. “Stability and consistency are crucial,” stated Liz Green, the NZC Women’s High Performance coordinator.
“Ben has contributed significantly to the advancement of the White Ferns and the development of the women’s pathway. Because of the progress Ben and the coaches have been making over the past two years, there was a significant amount of growth throughout that event,” she said.
Australia and New Zealand will play an ODI series at home.
Speaking of the upcoming assignment, the ladies of New Zealand will play a three-match ODI series against the women of Australia at home. Interestingly, the series will start in Wellington on December 19. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is anticipated to make an announcement this week regarding the team for the forthcoming series.
In addition, NZC informed the supporters that the T20 World Cup trophy would be on exhibit so they could snap pictures and see it up close.
