On September 18, Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara took consecutive wickets to put Afghanistan behind in their Asia Cup 2025 match. Afghanistan chose to bat first at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi after winning the toss.
The tone of Nuwan Thushara stint was set early on as he dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the opening ball of his over.
He removed Karim Janat, who had been moved up the batting order, with a stunning delivery on the final ball of the same over.
Thushara hit a good-length, well-pitched ball that swung hard away after landing off and middle. The ball struck the off-stump after Janat, who was caught at the crease, was unable to adapt to the out swinger. The Afghan hitter was challenged by Nuwan Thushara accurate line and movement, and his early breakthroughs helped Sri Lanka gain momentum and establish a strong foundation for their bowling attack.
