'Not too late, please return' - Madan Lal urges Virat Kohli to reverse Test retirement

Just one day after the close loss to England in the third Test at Lord’s, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal pushed Virat Kohli to come out of his Test retirement. Despite being in a strong position to lead the five-match series 2-1, India was unable to win the match.

Just before the England tour, Virat Kohli shocked the cricket community by announcing his retirement from red-ball cricket. Lal asked the seasoned batter to share his insights with the younger generation in order to improve Indian cricket in the near future, stating that there is nothing wrong with overturning the judgement.

Lal said that nobody had the same level of enthusiasm for the Indian team as Virat Kohli.

“Virat Kohli had an unrivalled enthusiasm for Indian cricket. I hope that after he retires, he would return to Test cricket. Returning has nothing wrong with it. According to NDTV Sports, Madan Lal told CricketPredicta, “If not in this series, he should make a comeback in the next (match).”

In my opinion, he ought to revoke his retirement. since he can play for a year or two with ease. It’s about sharing your knowledge with the younger generation. You simply left it. There is yet time. “Please return,” he continued.

Speaking about the third Test at Lord’s, England won the match hard and took a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series. With a stylish 104 to lead their first innings, Joe Root helped England reach 387. With an outstanding five-wicket haul, Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India’s bowling attack.

With a cool-headed century from KL Rahul, India reacted well, matching England’s tally of 387. However, Washington Sundar struck havoc with four wickets as England faltered in their second innings, managing just 192. The Indian attack bowled seven English hitters, an unusual sight.

India struggled as they chased 193 on a declining Day 5 pitch. Ravindra Jadeja maintained his position with a tenacious undefeated 61 from 181 balls in spite of the difficult circumstances. He formed crucial partnerships with Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, but in the end, the English bowlers were too strong and dismissed India for just 170.

England currently has the advantage going into the fourth Test, which starts at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 23. India will be keen to make a comeback and tie the series at 2-2, while England will try to win it.
