‘Not Gambhir, It’s Agarkar’ – Bangar on Gill’s ODI Captaincy

‘Not Gambhir, It’s Agarkar’ – Bangar on Gill’s ODI Captaincy

In comparison to the BCCI selection committee, former India cricketer and batting instructor Sanjay Bangar believes Gautam Gambhir had less influence over Shubman Gill’s selection as ODI captain. Prior to the current series against Australia, Gill—who had previously been named Test captain—was named full-time ODI captain.

According to Bangar, the selectors should decide the team’s makeup rather than the coach’s preferences. Bangar asserts that Gambhir cannot impose his will on the selection of a player to lead the team; instead, the selectors, in this case the panel headed by Ajit Agarkar, make such decisions.

“As far as I’m aware, the coach cannot make the call. The coach must cooperate with his current team. It’s not about how comfortable the coach is. The team must adapt to the coach. The opposite is not true. That’s the way cricket works. Shubman Gill is a really good batter for you. With five or six years of experience playing international cricket, he has age on his side. “I believe the call has been answered by the selectors,” Bangar said in a JioStar interview.

According to Parthiv Patel, he is with Gautam Gambhir.

Participating in the same discussion, Parthiv Patel went on to support the Men in Blue head coach’s reasonable desire for no more than two captains rather than one for each format. The former cricket player for India supported his argument by citing the viewpoints of other captains with varying ideologies.

“The decision is entirely reasonable. In his interview, Coach Gautam Gambhir also said that I should be considered. The former wicketkeeper-batter stated, “We have been thinking that the team is of the captain, but the way coaches work these days, the effort that goes behind the scenes.”

Working with captains who can have different beliefs is difficult for them, particularly if they are not even traveling together. One player who travels with the team in every format is Shubman Gill. Planning and maintaining communication are difficult tasks. When Gautam Gambhir stated that he only needed two captains at this point, rather than three, I agree with him,” Parthiv continued.

It was anticipated that Australia’s 50-over team would be captained by seasoned batsman Rohit Sharma. But just a few weeks before the tour began, Gill was named as the 38-year-old’s replacement. After losing the first match in the series in Australia by seven wickets on October 19, India is now 0-1 down.
