Northern Superchargers skipper Harry Brook has been named.

Harry Brook took over from Wayne Parnell at Northern Superchargers for this year’s men’s Hundred, and he was given his first taste of captaincy since his England Under-19 days.

After their dismal World Cup defences in the 50 and 20 overs in recent months, Harry Brook, 25, is regarded as a possible replacement for Jos Buttler as England’s white-ball captain. This assignment is a major step up for him.

Andrew Flintoff, the new head coach of Superchargers, has given him the opportunity to lead the team. Flintoff has been an assistant coach with the England white-ball team in recent months. Prior to this, he captained the Under-19 team during their 2018 World Cup campaign in New Zealand.

“It’s an honour to captain Northern Superchargers, and I’m really excited for it,” Brook stated. “It’s always special to play at Headingley and to represent the area, and to do that as captain in the Hundred this year will be extra special.”

In August of last year, Brook made his most recent outing for the Superchargers versus Welsh Fire at Headingley. He amassed a total of 158 runs at an unbeaten 102 from 42 balls, which helped to strengthen his case for a spot in the 50-over World Cup squad. It was one of the finest innings in Hundred history.

Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies, and Adil Rashid and Reece Topley, two of Brook’s teammates from the most recent World Cup campaigns, are all members of the Superchargers squad. The recent addition of former England opener Jason Roy, who replaces the suspended Brydon Carse, strengthened it even further.

“I really like the look of the squad we’ve formed, and I think there’s a lot to be excited about,” Brook stated. “I can’t wait to work with Freddie and the rest of the group and hopefully it’ll be a year to remember.”

Following their 2023 season as runners-up to Southern Brave, Hollie Armitage and head coach Dani Hazell will remain as captains of the women’s team.
