One of Texas’ most sought-after foreign acquisitions before the second MLC season, Mitchell had been out of form and sidelined by injury over the previous 12 months. In just three innings at the T20 World Cup 2024, he scored just 36 runs, and the Blackcaps were eliminated in the group stage of the major competition.
Due to a foot injury that kept him out of the second Test against South Africa in February, the 33-year-old had already missed games for the Kiwis. He had an unimpressive IPL season with Chennai Super Kings after returning, failing to find his best form.

Texas has turned to 19-year-old Noor Ahmad as Mitchell’s substitute, with the latter scheduled to begin a rehabilitation programme. Having taken seven wickets at an economy rate of 7.00 in ten Twenty20 Internationals, the left-arm wrist spinner has already represented Afghanistan.
Noor has also been a consistent player in T20 league competition, participating in the SA20, ILT20, and IPL. With a top average of 5/11, he has claimed 97 wickets in 96 T20 matches. Afghanistan’s team at the major event currently includes the teenage spinner.
The loss of Mitchell is obviously a major setback for the Texas Super Kings, who had signed him, former South African captain Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Santner and Devon Conway, two Kiwis, prior to the start of the MLC season.
They will, however, be pleased with the addition of Marcus Stoinis, an Australian all-rounder who was just named as the top T20I all-round player. Texas’ potent batting lineup will get even more potency with the addition of Stoinis.
The Texas Super Kings take face the LA Knight Riders to kick off the 2024 MLC season, which runs from July 6–29.
