On the fourth day of the first Test match between India and England at Headingley, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was spotted encouraging himself and telling himself not to take chances.
After skipper Shubman Gill was lost early on eight, the visitors started the day off on the losing foot. In the meantime, Rishabh Pant attacked England once more after hitting a hundred in the first innings. The self-motivation episode, meanwhile, happened after the southpaw survived the lbw appeal after attempting a slog-sweep against Brydon Carse. On stump mic, he was heard stating, ”
“Rishabh Pant, it’s a straight ball; you don’t have to play this way, okay? You will be able to bash it straight if you wish to hit. You’re attempting to hit it with the wind with force (Waise zaroori nahi hai). To seedha lag jayega na next ball, maarna hai. As he heard on the stump mike, Rishabh Pant reminded himself, “Zabardasti try kar raha hai.”

Rishabh Pant keeps a lot of records.
But after scoring 134 runs in the first innings, Pant went on to score 118 off 140 balls in the second innings, his second century of the game. With that, he became just the second wicketkeeper in Test history to score hundreds in both innings, following Andy Flower of Zimbabwe. In addition, he was only the ninth visiting batter overall and the first Indian to accomplish the record in England.
He now holds the record for the most runs scored by an Indian wicketkeeper in a Test match with 252 runs in both innings. In addition, it was his eighth Test century, tying Les Ames of England and lagging behind only wicketkeeper-batters Andy Flower (12) and Adam Gilchrist (17).
His collaboration with KL Rahul put the visitors in a solid position with a score of 137 off 247 balls. Rahul beat the likes of Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar with his third Test century in England. But a collapse in batting was brought on by their dismissals. India set a target of 371 after being bowled out for 364 by stumps from 333/5.
