No more surprises from India team for now: Rohit Sharma

During the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma stated that the Indian squad would not be delivering any more shocks. After playing in the third Test in Brisbane on Day 5, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his immediate retirement from international cricket.

According to the ICC Test rankings, Ashwin ended his remarkable international career when he was ranked third for all-rounders and sixth for bowlers, respectively.

The question of whether the Indian team will surprise more throughout the five-match series against Australia was posed to Rohit Sharma.

According to the 37-year-old, no major statement should be made again.

After the third test series in Brisbane finished in a draw, Rohit remarked, “No, abhi toh filhaal ke liye kuch nhi hai”.

For the second Test match at the Adelaide Oval, the renowned off-spinner was part of the playing XI. After taking just one wicket, he was left off the squad for the third Test match at the legendary Gabba. Having taken 537 wickets in 106 games, Ashwin concludes his Test career. Moreover, he has taken 156 and 72 wickets in 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is for the Men in Blue.

Rain and poor lighting on Day 5 of the third Test prevented fans from seeing much cricket activity. 260 runs were bowled out of India’s first innings. With some aggressive cricket, Australia attempted to increase their 185-run lead from the first innings. However, the Indian pacers continued to take wickets at regular intervals and bowled well. Ultimately, the home team declared at 89/7.

In the fourth innings, the tourists had to score 275 runs in at least 54 overs. Nevertheless, poor lighting forced the match to end after just 2.1 overs. There was also some rain, thus the game was eventually cancelled. On Boxing Day, the fourth Test begins in Melbourne, and the five-match series is still tied at one.
