The Men in Blue will approach the crucial matches with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as their sole wicketkeeping alternatives, according to the final announcement of the Indian selection for the England ODIs and the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Sanju Samson was left off of the Indian squad for the forthcoming 50-oer competitions.
The last time Samson played an ODI was in 2023, during the away series against South Africa. He made a century to help India win the series finale and, ultimately, the series by a 2-1 margin. Samson did not participate in any of the three ODIs that India played on their visit of Sri Lanka after that. As the selectors ignored Samson, former cricket player Sunil Gavaskar spoke up and voiced his disgust.
“There’s no justification for excluding him. However, he faced off against Rishabh Pant, who is known to be a game-changer.
Furthermore, Gavaskar told Sports Today, as cited by The Indian Express, “Pant is a left-hander and is likely the better wicketkeeper, even though he might not be the better batter than Samson.”
Samson missed out because Pant might have a somewhat greater ability to alter the outcome of the game. Samson shouldn’t be discouraged, though, since all Indian cricket fans will feel sorry for him because of his accomplishments,” he continued.
Samson is expected to feature in the five-match Twenty20 International series against England, which kicks off on January 22 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. In order to catch the selectors’ notice for the forthcoming events, the Kerala native would be hoping to put on some outstanding performances.
