At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, during the second Test match between India and the West Indies, Aakash Chopra was unable to understand why Nitish Reddy was not used with the ball.
The all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad was not utilised with the ball in the second Test, but he did not bat in the first. He went wicketless and bowled just four overs during the series. Chopra believes that India has guaranteed that there will be controversy about Reddy’s place in the starting lineup for the Test series against South Africa in November by not utilising his bowling prowess against the Caribbean team.
“I’m not sure. Not only did he not bowl in this game, he did not bat in the last one. At first, you were aware of that, but eventually the captain tried everything, but to no avail. Why not, then, Nitish Reddy? On ESPNcricinfo, Aakash Chopra responded to a question concerning how India would use Reddy’s versatility against the West Indies.
“He is playing this game as an all-arounder and is a hitter who can bowl. The fact that he doesn’t bowl baffles me. Additionally, that raises doubts about the choice. He is scheduled at eight for one Test match. When he bats at number five, he does not bowl. The next question is, “What do we do with that No. 6 slot before the South Africa series?” he continued.
Nitish Reddy did not bowl a ball during the second Test, which is inexplicable: Aakash
At an average of 39.63, Nitish Reddy has taken eight wickets in his nine Test appearances thus far. He was a good bowler in England and Australia. Getting some overs under his belt in challenging home circumstances would have allowed him to improve his bowling, even though it’s still a work in progress.
“The least you can do is give him a bowl when the conditions are favourable for bowling and there are no wickets falling. Whether they are confused is a question I cannot answer. Does the captain, coach, or perhaps both have the final say? However, Chopra came to the conclusion that Nitish Reddy did not bowl a ball in the second Test, which is illogical.
On Tuesday, October 14, India triumphed in the second Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Day 5 morning session saw them accomplish the 121-run goal, with KL Rahul remaining undefeated at 108-ball 58. The Asian powerhouses defeated the West Indies 2-0. Kuldeep Yadav took eight wickets in the two innings and was named Player of the Match. In the meantime, Ravindra Jadeja, who amassed 104 runs and claimed eight wickets, was named Player of the Series.
