Nitish Reddy, an all-rounder, has been cut from India’s roster for the opening Test match against South Africa. In Rajkot, the Andhra cricket player will play for India A in a one-day series against South Africa A. The Niranjan Shah Stadium will host the three one-day matches between India A and South Africa A from November 13 to 19.
It is noteworthy that following the conclusion of the ‘A’ series, Nitish Reddy will rejoin India’s red-ball team for the second Test, which will be staged at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 to 26.
Nitish Reddy played in both of India’s October Test matches against the West Indies.
Nitish Reddy let up 16 runs in four overs without taking a wicket, and he was only given the ball once. However, in the one chance he had with the bat, he scored a 43 off 54 balls.
Dhruv Jurel, who scored two undefeated hundreds in the second unofficial Test between India A and South Africa A in Bengaluru last week, is almost guaranteed to play the first Test match against the Proteas, possibly as a specialist batter, according to India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, he amassed 175 runs at an average of 87.5 in three innings against the West Indies. At the time, the latter was recuperating from a foot injury.
Jurel may be seen batting in the lower order now that Pant is back in the equation, and he is anticipated to put on the wicketkeeping gloves.
India’s revised first-test squad:
Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), and KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep.
