Irfan Pathan thinks that Hardik Pandya’s frequent opportunities to play for India are what made him the cricket player he is now. In order for Nitish Reddy to develop his abilities and become a crucial component of the team, the former wants him to have a lengthy rope in India’s playing XI.
Given the dearth of seam-bowling all-rounders in the nation, Pathan, the champion of the T20 World Cup, advised the team management to keep Reddy on the team even if he fails. Pathan believes that additional opportunities will enable the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder to fully showcase his skills, even if he acknowledged that aside from the Test century in Australia, his performances on the international circuit haven’t been particularly outstanding.
“Even if Nitish Reddy doesn’t succeed, he should be given further chances. Few all-rounders can bat in the middle order and bowl at 130 kmph. Playing frequently throughout the first two to three years helped Hardik Pandya develop into the player he is now. Like they did with Pandya in the past, the fans, team management, and selectors will need to exercise patience with Nitish Reddy as well,” Irfan Pathan stated on his YouTube channel.
“We will never witness the potential materialise into performances if we lack patience. Nitish Reddy hasn’t performed yet. We haven’t seen anything exceptional from him in Test matches since the Test Hundred in Melbourne. He hasn’t performed well even in white-ball cricket when given the chance. However, no other players possess this set of abilities,” he continued.
To date, Nitish Reddy has participated in two ODIs, four T20Is, and ten Test matches.
In all three formats, the 22-year-old’s batting averages are 26.4, 27, and 45. He has three T20I scalps at 23.67 and five Test wickets at 45.75 with the ball. Reddy has been selected for India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which will start in Vadodara on Sunday, January 11. The Visakhapatnam native might as well get some playing time while Pandya is rested for the assignment.
