Nitish Rana to Lead Delhi; Rathi Dropped

Ayush Badoni, who will play as a specialist hitter, has been replaced as captain by Nitish Rana.A 26-man team has been announced by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) for the next Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The fast-bowling trio of Ishant Sharma, Harshit Rana, and Navdeep Saini will play, depending on their availability, despite the fact that 26 players have been named. However, because to their outstanding U-23 results, youthful players Ankit Rajesh Kumar and Yash Bhatia were selected for the team.

Digvesh Rathi, who had a breakout season with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, is one of the team’s most prominent absences. With 14 wickets at an average of 30.64 and an economy rate of 8.25 in 13 games, he surpassed the seasoned Ravi Bishnoi. But the team also includes other IPL players like Prince Yadav, Anuj Rawat, Simarjeet Singh, and Suyash Sharma.

Delhi will play all of their games at Ahmedabad as they are in Elite Group D for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The other teams in the group are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tripura, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Saurashtra. Rana and company will play Jharkhand to begin their campaign.

In the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, Delhi and Rajasthan recently drew at the Madan Paliwal Miraj Sports Centre. With eight points from five games, they are now ranked sixth in the group. In the nation’s top domestic red-ball competition, they have yet to win a match.

Delhi’s SMAT 2025 squad:

Nitish Rana (C), Ayush Badoni, Ayush Doseja, Mayank Rawat, Tejasvi, Anuj Rawat, Yash Dhull, Himmat Singh, Simarjeet Singh, Rahul Dagar, Yash Bhatia, Ankit Rajesh Kumar, Harsh Tyagi, Suyash Sharma, Prince Yadav, Money Grewal, Rohan Rana, Dhruv Kaushik, Aryan Rana, Vaibhav Khandpal.
