On Day 3 of the first Test match between India and the West Indies in Ahmedabad, Nitish Kumar Reddy made a spectacular catch that sent Tagenarine Chanderpaul back, solidifying India’s hold. The hosts scored twice in quick succession to put the visitors farther behind after declaring overnight at their first-innings total of 448/5.
Earlier, Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) led India’s bowlers as they destroyed the West Indies for just 162 in the first innings. Then, on Day 2, three centurions stole the show as India’s batters crossed the 400-run threshold.
Ravindra Jadeja (104*) added another century to his incredible 2025, KL Rahul (100) achieved his first Test century at home since 2016, and Dhruv Jurel (125) celebrated a first tonne. India led by 286 runs thanks to their efforts, and captain Shubman Gill was forced to declare overnight.
Siraj’s short shot against Chanderpaul was the high point of the third day’s morning. In an attempt to play a pull shot, the left-hander muddled it just enough to send it soaring in the direction of square leg.
However, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was positioned there, flew full length to his left and caught the ball cleanly, making sure it didn’t come out as it hit the ground.

On the morning of Day 3, India takes two wickets.
Sai Sudharsan completed a catch at short leg shortly after Ravindra Jadeja removed John Campbell for 14. The Caribbean team’s scoreboard for the first ten overs was 24/2, with a 262-run deficit. With the high total at stumps on Day 2, India had already put the visitors on the defensive. With two early wickets in the first hour of Day 3, they had further dominated the team. In order to put the Windies below 286 runs, the hosts will want to take the final eight wickets.
