In 2022, during their inaugural ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup campaign, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan to achieve their first-ever victory in the competition. Nigar Sultana Joty, the captain, is now eager to make an impression during her team’s second World Cup, which begins on September 30.
Nigar Sultana focused on the forthcoming major competition and emphasised Bangladesh’s main advantages, which helped them win the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier earlier this year in Pakistan, while remembering the memorable moments from that historic victory.
“We want to make it work for us this time, and we are really excited and hopeful. It was enlightening for the team to play in an ODI World Cup for the first time three years ago in New Zealand. In her ICC blog, Nigar Sultana stated, “We made history last time, securing our first-ever win at a World Cup by beating Pakistan in a game I will never forget.”
Fargana Hoque scored the most goals for us that day and was chosen for the team once more. She and Sharmin Akhter, who has done well after dropping to number three in the order, are essential to our success as Bangladesh’s top run scorer. We advanced through the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan, with Sharmin scoring the most runs for us. Our spin spinners were also crucial to our victory, and I anticipate that they will succeed in India and Sri Lanka just as they did in Pakistan. Nahida Akter is a vital member of our team and our top wicket-taker in both ODIs and T20Is,” she continued.
For the 2025 competition, seven players from Bangladesh’s 2022 Cricket World Cup team are back, offering a wealth of experience to balance the youthful enthusiasm of a number of tournament newcomers.
Nigar Sultana acknowledged that the tournament preparations have been rigorous, and Bangladesh is certain they will do well on the main stage.
“We have been putting in a lot of practice over the past few months, and we aim to be at our peak at this amazing time. I’m asking for prayers from Bangladeshis and supporters worldwide,” Joty wrote.
On Thursday, October 2, Bangladesh will play Pakistan in Colombo to kick off their World Cup campaign.
