Speedster Jahanara Alam recently accused Bangladesh’s captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, of violently abusing the team’s younger athletes. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), however, had denied the allegations.
Junior cricket players had reached out to Jahanara, who said in an interview with Riasad Azim that they were being physically abused by Nigar Sultana.
Nigar Sultana attacked Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur viciously while defending herself against the accusations.
She appeared to be bringing up an incident from India’s 2023 tour of Bangladesh, in which Harmanpreet was given out and used her bat to destroy the stumps.
The umpire’s judgement did not sit well with the Punjab hitter. She even referred to the umpiring standards as “pathetic” at the press conference held after the game. As she posed for a picture with the trophy, she also made fun of the Bangladeshi players, urging them to contact the officials.
“Why would I strike someone? Why, after all, would I hit the stumps with my bat? Do I really hit the stumps in that manner, or am I Harmanpreet? Why would I do it? If I’m cooking or doing something else in my personal space, I might smack my helmet or slam my bat around; that’s my own business. But why would I harm someone else in that way? How come I would get physical? Simply because someone says so? In an interview with Daily Cricket, Joty stated, “You can ask the other players or anybody else if I’ve ever done anything like that.”
So, am I the supreme authority? Joty queries
Alam, who lives in Australia and hasn’t represented Bangladesh in international cricket since December 2024, would have been the target of a complaint from her players, according to Joty, if she had struck them.
According to what has been said about me in public, I’m not that kind of girl. “I first learnt that Jahanara apu had made a claim against me, claiming that someone in Australia called her and said, ‘Please save us, Nigar Sultana apu is beating us and finishing us off.'” stated the batsman-wicketkeeper.
“What I’m trying to say is, if I truly beat someone or hurt them in any manner, is there no team management, manager, or coaching staff? Someone who has been gone to Australia for six or seven years is gone. So, am I the supreme authority? In other words, why would this player call Jahanara apu from Australia if she was having trouble? She has the option to share it with whomever present,” Nigar Sultana continued.
