Punjab Kings and Shreyas Iyer are off to a great start in the current Indian Premier League season. They defeated the Gujarat Titans by 11 runs to start the season. Their most recent victory came by a decisive eight-wicket margin over the Lucknow Super Giants. Nick Knight, a former English cricket player, praised the captain’s attitude and on-field mannerisms.
They’ve won two games really well, according to their lineup, and this one (against LSG) was definitely comprehensive. Players from other countries haven’t contributed anything to that. Therefore, Indian players have contributed. The skipper is unyielding. He appears very composed. He exudes authority. Knight was cited as saying, “The team is playing exactly how his mentality is playing out along with the coach Ricky Ponting.”
We are doing fairly well if we are winning games without them: Nick Knight
The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster also highlighted the international players’ meagre contribution to their initial triumphs, which would give PBKS tremendous confidence because their Indian contingent’s performances were strong enough to win.
“Whoever it is—Maxwell, Stoinis, Ferguson, Omarzai—you can be sure they’ll play a significant role, win a few games, and make a significant contribution in the process.” it’s going to happen eventually, you say, putting it in the back pocket. Therefore, we’re doing fairly well if we’re winning games without them. From that performance, it’s all I perceive. Given that some of their key players haven’t yet contributed significantly, that is a fairly confident start for them,” Knight continued.
It’s interesting to note that PBKS’ recent victories over GT and LSG were only their fourth IPL opening-round victory. The prior incidents occurred in 2023, 2017, and 2014. On Saturday, April 5, they will play the Rajasthan Royals in their third IPL 2025 match.
