Chris Gayle held the mark for the most sixes hit by a batter in a calendar year, but Nicholas Pooran broke it. During the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 match between Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Sunday, September 1, at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, the wicketkeeper-batter accomplished this outstanding achievement.
2015 saw the venerable Gayle hit 135 sixes. With his brilliant innings of 97 from 43 balls on Sunday, Pooran increased his 2024 total of sixes to a whopping 139. There are several entries for the renowned West Indies batter on the list. Gayle has six appearances in the top 10—she hits the most sixes in a single year. But Pooran’s debut in the top 10 list came with this one.
This season, Pooran has eight T20 teams, including the national squad of the West Indies. Just 58 games have produced the 139 sixes. The flashy batter has scored 13 half-centuries this season, but he has not yet reached the three-figure threshold. When it comes to this season’s top run scorers, Pooran is far ahead. With 1844 runs in 2024, he appears well-positioned to surpass the 2,000-run mark.

When Pooran went down on one knee and hit Tabraiz Shamsi over the leg side for his sixth maximum in the 12th over of match No. 3 in the CPL 2024, he broke Gayle’s record. With just 21 balls, the 29-year-old also reached his fifty.

Keacy Carty (73* off 35 balls) and Pooran played outstanding knocks to help TKR score a massive 250/4. The Patriots responded by putting up a respectable batting display to reach 206/8. But ultimately, they were defeated by 44 runs because they simply had too many runs to chase.
