Twitter Reaction: In the second ODI, New Zealand Women defeat Pakistan by a whisker to seal the series

In the second ODI, the Pakistan women’s squad took on the New Zealand women in an exciting match played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Pakistan had a weakness going into the match because their captain, Nida Dar, was sidelined due to injury and had to recover from a concussion sustained in the previous game. In the end, the powerful White Ferns completely outclassed Pakistan in the opening game.

Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen got Pakistan off to a solid start as they attempted to chase a formidable 366 runs. They broke the previous record of 84 runs shared by Ayesha Zafar and Nahida Khan against the White Ferns in 2016 with their strong 110-run partnership. Pakistan’s innings were capped with an outstanding 105 from Sidra Ameen, 117 deliveries, and 12 boundaries, but they were bowled out for 234 in the last over.

With Nida Dar out for the second ODI, Fatima Sana assumed captaincy duties and went to toss with Sophie Devine, the captain of New Zealand. Lea Tahuhu bowled Muneeba Ali out for the first time in the opening over on a field that appeared to be difficult for batting when New Zealand decided to bowl first. With Sidra Ameen out, Pakistan was reduced to 35 for 4, unable to sustain any further pressure against Hannah Rowe.

Suzie Bates and Maddy Green win for the White Ferns, ending Fatima Sana’s hard-fought innings.

But newly appointed captain Fatima Sana filled the void and she and Natalia Pervaiz created an incredible alliance. Pakistan managed to set a competitive total of 220 because to Sana’s tenacious 90 and Najiha Alvi’s 32. Fran Jonas claimed two wickets, while Sophie Devine claimed three for New Zealand. Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine’s dismissals dealt a blow to New Zealand’s hopes of reaching the mark.

Suzie Bates, however, steadied the ship with 74 out of 91 deliveries. Maddy Green’s solid 83 off 96 provided a bulwark for the White Ferns, despite Ghulam Fatima’s outstanding 4/47. With one wicket left and the series secured, Lea Tahuhu’s all-around performance, which included a vital batsman’s hand, guaranteed that New Zealand prevailed by the slimmest of margins.

‘X’ users’ reactions to New Zealand victory over Pakistan are as follows:
