"New Zealand will be more prepared for the final; it won't be a walk in the park for India: Wasim Jaffer"

Following victories in their respective semi-final matches against Australia and South Africa, India and New Zealand are guaranteed spots as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 finalists. The final winner will lift the coveted trophy when the two teams face off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9.

Many experts have expressed their opinions about which team has a stronger advantage in the match, and most of them have supported the Indian team. Wasim Jaffer, a former cricket player for India, thinks that New Zealand would win the final and have the advantage in the exciting match, despite popular thinking.

“Earlier in the tournament, India easily defeated New Zealand, but I don’t think it will be as simple this time.

A bit more prepared would be New Zealand. Speaking on cricketer Basit Ali’s YouTube channel, he stated, “They have already played in Dubai, so they will be accustomed to the conditions as well.”

Additionally, he valued New Zealand’s bowling unit’s versatility, particularly their potent spin attacks. In the group-stage match against India, the Kiwi captain Santner was especially effective, dismissing KL Rahul and finishing with 10-1-41-1. According to Jaffer, his leadership and ball-handling skills have been crucial for the finalists.

Their batting depth is that great. Their bowling would work well in Dubai’s climate. Mitchell Santner has been an excellent bowler and skipper. Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, and Michael Bracewell are also present. The other teams didn’t have as many possibilities as they did,” he continued.

After defeating the Proteas in a decisive semi-final in Lahore, the New Zealanders will go into the final with confidence. Their side reached a commanding 362/6 thanks to a tonne of runs from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson. Despite outstanding knocks from Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma, and David Miller, the rainbow nation failed to reach the goal.

In the meantime, India defeated Australia by four wickets to advance to the final. Virat Kohli was instrumental in the chase, striking a cool 84 to help India win with 11 balls remaining. With both sides playing at their best, the eagerly awaited final is sure to be exciting.
