For the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has revealed a 15-person team. The team’s new captain is Mitchell Santner. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host three of the Black Caps’ first-round games.
Together with Ish Sodhi, the nation’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, Santner will head the spin department. Spin-bowling all-rounders Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra are also on the team.
New Zealand has bolstered their spin attack because the Chennai surface has historically provided spin bowlers with considerable support.
The Kiwis still have a strong pace bowling outfit despite the focus on spin. Experienced players Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, and Adam Milne will back up Jacob Duffy, who has earned his first T20 World Cup call-up. Jimmy Neesham will fill in as the pace-bowling all-rounder, and Kyle Jamieson will travel with the team as a reserve. Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Tim Seifert, Devon Conway, and Daryl Mitchell are in the batting order.
“We have five all-rounders who each contribute a little something different, excellent bowlers who can adjust to varied circumstances, and a lot of power and talent in the batting. According to NDTV Sports, head coach Rob Walter stated, “This is an experienced group and the players are not strangers to playing in the sub-continent, which will be valuable.”
New Zealand will travel to India for three One-Day Internationals and five T20 Internationals prior to the T20 World Cup. Before the tournament begins, the Kiwis will play a warm-up match against the United States of America. New Zealand is in the same group as South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
“With three T20 International series to begin the home summer, followed by the Super Smash and franchise possibilities, the team has had a healthy meal of T20 cricket before this World Cup. Additionally, we have a very exciting tour of India, which will be a significant test and offer excellent preparation for the future,” Walter stated.
