Trent Boult, a fast bowler for New Zealand, has stated that he still has a strong desire to play in the ODI World Cup in India later this year. Boult was released from his central contract in August 2022 at his own request so he could spend more time with his family and be available for franchise competitions worldwide.

Since New Zealand’s semi-final loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in November 2022, the 33-year-old has not played international cricket.

Additionally, he has not played in a Test match for nearly a year, as New Zealand gives preference to contracted players in their selection. Boult stated in a recent interview with ESPNcricinfo that he still has a strong desire to represent New Zealand. Additionally, he stated that he feels privileged to have played for the Black Caps for thirteen years. He also expressed his desire to return to India in October-November for the 50-over World Cup.

“I continue to have a strong desire to compete for New Zealand. It is what it is: I’ve reached a conclusion. I’ve been fortunate to have a 13-year career with the BlackCaps, and I still have a strong ambition to compete in the World Cup. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out: the landscape is still in flux,” Boult said.

He also discussed his interaction with Kane Williamson following the conclusion of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. According to him, he told Williamson that they would also reach this position in the upcoming World Cup in India. He also discussed the limited-overs captain of New Zealand, who is recuperating from a knee injury sustained during the inaugural 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

“I recall that after the 2019 final, I told Kane Williamson that we must be there in 2023 in India. The situation with his knee is unfortunate, but he will work as hard as he can to reach his goal. It’s such a fantastic competition… I have a strong desire to be out there,” Boult said.

Presently, Boult is playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 33-year-old has taken ten wickets in eight matches so far this season.
