Netherlands announce squad for first Bangladesh tour

In the announcement of the Netherlands’ team for the forthcoming three-match away T20I series against Bangladesh, 17-year-old Cedric de Lange received his first call-up. On August 30, the 20-over competitions are set to start. All the matches will be played in Sylhet, in what is scheduled to be the first-ever bilateral tour for them in the Asian country.

Teenage wonder De Lange has been showing off his skills at the club and Under-19 levels, most recently in the Pro Series, a domestic T20 competition held in his home country. For the forthcoming T20I series in Bangladesh beginning on August 30, the national team has also called up all-rounder Sikander Zulfiqar and right-arm fast Sebastiaan Braat. After Saqib Zulfiqar withdrew for personal reasons and Ryan Klein and Fred Klaassen were ruled out due to injuries, the changes had to be made.

Captain Scott Edwards wished de Lange a long career and expressed excitement about what the left-handed hitter will bring to the team. Sikander Zulfiqar and Sebastiaan Braat have also been called up to the Netherlands team. In 2021 and 2019, respectively, the two played their final Twenty20 Internationals. Edwards appeared to be happy that the two were back on the international scene and was looking forward to their contributions in the upcoming games.

“Adding a child to the team is always exciting. Cedric truly deserved this call-up because of his outstanding performance throughout the summer. According to ESPNcricinfo, Edwards said, “We’re excited to see what he can offer us on this tour and, hopefully, across a long career ahead of him.”

“Welcoming Sebastiaan Braat back into the team is also fantastic. Although he hasn’t played for us in a few years (four), he has had a fantastic summer at the club and domestic levels, and we are eager to have his experience back in the squad. Sikander has previously contributed significantly to our national team, and I’m happy to see him back in Orange. I’m excited to have him rejoin the team because of his incredible ability to clear the fence late in the game,” Edwards continued.

This will be the first time Netherlands will be touring Bangladesh to play a bilateral series. To far, they have only faced the Bangla Tigers in five Twenty20 Internationals. Before the series begins on August 30, they will spend three days training in Sylhet.
