Need to see some big runs from Australia’s top order: David Warner

Right now, Australia and India are tied 1-1 in their five-match series.

Need to see some big runs from Australia's top order: David Warner

Australia’s top order in the current series against India has not convinced David Warner. The former international stated that Travis Head, who has been outstanding thus far and also got a century in Adelaide, has to be supported by the batting unit after Marnus Labuschagne scored a half-century in the second Test.

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja hasn’t done much in the series thus far. It’s concerning that the veteran has only scored 34 runs in two games. Steve Smith hasn’t left much of an impression either, and Warner pointed out that the team management needs to address certain issues before the Gabba Test.

“I believe that everyone in the top tier, not just ‘Uzzie,’ is under pressure. We know Travis can do it because he came out and counterpunched, scoring an incredible hundred. However, everyone else in the vicinity is in favour of it. Fox Cricket cited Warner as stating, “It’s not just one player in particular; it’s the top six scoring bulk runs and making sure you’re giving the fast bowlers rest.”

The first Test match moved quickly, but Mitchell Starc was at his best with the pink ball in the final one. “We need to see some big runs from the top order when we get to Brisbane,” he continued.

The intention of McSweeney impressed David Warner.

In the first two games of the series, McSweeney has scored 59 runs. In spite of this, the southpaw acknowledged his intent in the longest format and loved what he saw. The child has a nice temperament, he continued, and McSweeney can succeed in Test cricket if he can maintain it.

Warner remarked, “I think he’s handled it well. He’s had four of probably the five hardest jobs when it comes to an opening batsman.” Although there are many unanswered questions regarding why they selected him, we now know why we caught glimmers of your intent when you were scoring the other day.

I like the way he sets up, he has a wonderful disposition, and I believe he has a bright future. Simply put, if India bowls in partnerships, their bowling attack is unrelenting. Warner stated, “Hopefully, the boys can score some big runs against them if they bowl like they did the other day with just (Jasprit) Bumrah.”
