After a catastrophic start to their Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) season, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have some good news: star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been cleared to play in the current season. The daring batsman, who has been a key member of the Mumbai Indians lineup for some years, notably sustained a grade II rupture in his ankle during the third Twenty20 International against South Africa in December 2023.
He had to have a hernia operation in London after that, and he started his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As a result of NCA failing to give the 33-year-old clearance to play, he was unable to participate in the opening four games of the season. But now that he’s been authorised to play for the five-time champions, he should be eligible to play in Mumbai’s upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, April 7 at Wankhede Stadium.
“He’s now fit. He was forced to play a few practice games by the NCA, and he looked good. He is welcome to join the Indians of Mumbai. In order to ensure that Surya returns to Michigan fully healthy and prepared to play games, we needed to be sure. A BCCI insider told the Indian Express, “We waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting because he wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness test before the IPL.”
In his most recent international innings, Suryakumar Yadav scored a hundred.
On his Instagram story, Suryakumar also shared a picture of himself practicing at the NCA. Currently holding the top ranking in T20Is with 861 ratings, the Mumbai-born batter is a valuable component of the Indian side that will compete in the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Suryakumar scored a stunning century (56), thanks to seven fours and eight sixes, in his final over against South Africa in Johannesburg. On his IPL comeback, he’ll be hoping for another spectacular knock.
