During Sunday, April 21, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, during Match 36 versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hitter Virat Kohli also found himself on the receiving end of one such judgment. Due to a number of contentious umpiring calls made thus far in the competition, the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) has garnered media attention.
After being caught off guard by Harshit Rana’s high full toss in the second over of the second innings, Kohli played the ball in the air and was caught by the bowler. Nevertheless, when the umpire failed to indicate that it was a “no ball,” Kohli chose to employ DRS and requested that third umpire Michael Gough step in.
To his dismay, the third umpire also dismissed Kolkata’s appeal, ruling that Kohli had been out of crease when facing the delivery and had hit the ball a little too far away from his body as it was dipping. He was forced to leave his squad on 27/1 and walk back to the pavilion on 18/7 as a result.

Kohli was spotted stormily making his way back to the dressing room after being dismissed, and he even got into a violent argument with the on-field umpires. Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was a part of the Hindi commentary panel for the match, backed Kohli and described the incident as against the “spirit of the game,” despite the fact that the cricket community is split on the validity of the dismissal.

Returning to the play, RCB was painfully two runs short of the enormous 223 mark and lost the game in spite of half-centuries from Will Jacks (55 off 32) and Rajat Patidar (52 off 23). Consequently, RCB lost for the sixth time in a row and is still at the bottom of the points table with only one win out of eight games in which they have two points.
