In the forthcoming Test series in England, veteran Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu thinks that having star batsman Virat Kohli in the team will be essential. The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–2027 cycle will start when India travels to England for a five-match Test.
Following rumours that Kohli had told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intention to retire from Test cricket, the 61-year-old shared his opinions. The 36-year-old will be a knight in shining armour, according to Sidhu, who maintained that the England tour required that kind of expertise.
“Virat Kohli’s announcement that he wishes to retire has caused a stir in the cricket community. Even for other Test-playing countries, the trip we are about to go on will be the most difficult litmus test. Why do I think that in England, Kohli could be our “knight in shining armour”? due to his experience, particularly in the wake of Rohit Sharma’s exit.
India Today cited Navjot Singh as stating, “You can’t send an inexperienced side to England.”
Although the Indian veteran’s intentions are good, the cricketer-turned-commentator recognised that the timing of the move is bad for the Indian squad.
“His goal is admirable and his aim is correct: the old order must give way to the new. However, given that India’s honour and reputation are at stake, the time and setting are inappropriate,” he continued.
After the retirement announcement went viral, a number of cricket experts and previous players shared their opinions about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player.
A few days ago, Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma made the announcement on social media that he was retiring from the Test format. India will play England in Leeds starting on June 20.
