"No big deal," he said. - Nathan Lyon responds to Ollie Robinson's comment about being No. 11 before the Lord's Test

Australia beat England in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston by just two wickets. There were a lot of things to talk about from the game. But most of the talk was about English pacer Ollie Robinson, whose actions during the game made news. Robinson had a lot to say after the first Test of the Ashes in 2023. He made fun of Usman Khawaja and said that Australia’s bottom order was “No. 11,” among other things. Australia’s first inning ended with them being bowled out for 386.

On Day 3, the English bowling attack threw a lot of short balls to put pressure on Australia’s lower order. The plan worked, as England took the last four wickets of Australia’s first innings for just 14 runs. Robinson said that England had talked about the bouncer attack as a team because Australia’s lower-order batters were only No. 11 batters. When Nathan Lyon heard Robinson’s words, he replied in a funny way that he was, in fact, a No. 11 batter and that Josh Hazlewood kept him from batting there.

“If I’m being honest, I’m a No. 11.” Only Josh won’t let me bat at number 11. “That’s all just joking around, and I have no problem with it,” Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

But Nathan Lyon seemed to disprove Robinson’s claim that he didn’t do much because he and Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, made an amazing partnership that was key to Australia winning the first Test match. Both of them batted when Australia was having trouble because England kept throwing at them.

Nathan Lyon got 16 runs without being out in 28 balls, while Cummins got 44 runs in 73 balls. Their important partnership in the middle order helped the Aussies win by two wickets at Edgbaston, giving them the best possible start to the Ashes in 2023.
