Dgbaston hosted the first Ashes Test, and the result was identical to what occurred there four years prior. Australia was victorious on both occasions, albeit in different ways. Nathan Lyon excelled with the ball in the 2019 Edgbaston Test’s second innings, taking six wickets. This time, the Australian off-spinner contributed with the bat and enabled Australia to escape defeat.
Australia began Day 5 needing 174 runs to take a 1-0 series lead. Seven wickets were in hand. Usman Khawaja, the first-inning centurion, added to his overnight tally of 34 before being dismissed with a patient 65.
Australia still required 54 runs after losing their eighth wicket when they were behind by eight. Cummins required a partner at the plate. Nathan Lyon entered the crease and provided commendable support for his captain. Cummins (44* off 73) and Lyon (16* off 28) kept their cool under duress to help the Australians win with two wickets remaining. Lyon had a memorable encounter with the ball, taking four wickets in both innings and earning high praise from his captain.
“He’s enormous; in both innings, he bats one end. He is an unequivocal superstar who is composed and diligent in his work. “He is a captain’s dream,” said Cummins in the post-game press conference regarding Lyon’s performance.
The Australian pacer also revealed the conversation he had with Nathan Lyon when the latter hooked a Stuart Broad delivery for four.

Prior to the first Test, one of the most discussed topics was how Australia would counter England’s ‘Bazball’ strategy. Australia, the World Test Champion, employed a conventional strategy that paid dividends. Cummins expressed his opinion regarding the dissimilar playing techniques of the two teams and inferred that the contrast is entertaining.
“Both teams spoke about their playing styles; we played to our strengths; we don’t know which is superior, but it’s entertaining either way.”
Beginning on June 28, the second Test will be contested at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
