Nathan Ellis ruled out injured

Due to a hamstring injury, captain Nathan Ellis of the Hobart Hurricanes is expected to miss the rest of the 2025–26 Big Bash League. Nathan Ellis will be replaced as the team’s leader by Ben McDermott. The winner of the Challenger match between the Sydney Sixers and the reigning champions will play the Perth Scorchers in the season finale.

Nathan Ellis, too, had missed the Knockout. The Hurricanes advanced to the Challenger, which is set for Friday, January 23, in Sydney, after defeating the Melbourne Stars by three runs in a rain-affected match. The injury had initially occurred during a game between the Hurricanes and the Brisbane Heat. But before the game, Charlie Wakim, a hitter, took his spot.

Nathan Ellis, the captain of the Hobart Hurricanes, will miss the rest of the BBL season and the BBL15 finals due to hamstring strain.

Nathan Ellis was hoping to play in the next two games of the BBL finals after missing the Knockout on Wednesday night, but he was sadly unable to overcome the injury, the club said in a media release on Friday.

Ellis has taken 14 wickets at an economy rate of 9.03 in nine games this season, making him the Hobart Hurricanes’ top wicket-taker. During Australia’s three-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan in Pakistan, he has been rested. The start of this series is set for next week. Ellis’ participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will take place in February and March, is seriously doubtful due to this injury.

Jordan is also unsure

Chris Jordan’s ability to play for the Challenger against the Sixers is still questionable. It was indicated that he might have had a recurrent injury during the Hurricanes’ game against the Stars. Jordan did not bowl or field throughout the second innings and batted for just one ball at the end of his team’s innings. As the reigning champions going into the 2025–2026 BBL, the Hurricanes will try to guarantee their place in the summit matchup in order to win consecutive championships.
