Nathan Bracken, a former Australian speedster, makes a surprising career change

Nathan Bracken, a former fast bowler for Australia, unexpectedly changed careers years after turning down a rich offer to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bracken, who is renowned for his long hair and flowing run-up, was a part of Australia’s heyday in the 2000s.

Especially in limited-overs cricket, his ability to swing the ball both ways and his skill at slower deliveries made him a nightmare for hitters. The left-arm pacer played in 140 international matches in various formats for Australia. In all, he claimed 205 wickets in these appearances.

He was acquired in the 2011 IPL auction by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for an incredible INR 1.3 crore. Bracken, however, turned down the opportunity, preferring to avoid the pomp and glamour of the richest T20 competition in the world. When we go back to the present, Bracken’s life has changed significantly.

Nathan Bracken made an effort to run for office early in 2023.

Reportedly employed as an account manager, the 46-year-old was previously the second-fastest Australian to reach 100 ODI wickets, trailing only Shane Warne and Dennis Lillee. He even made a political bid in 2023, seeking the seat of The Entrance as a Liberal candidate. Even so, this endeavour did not result in a sustained political career.

Notably, Bracken retired from cricket early in 2011. His choice to decline the IPL opportunity stemmed from injuries he sustained in the final stages of his career. He was obliged to hang up his boots too soon because of these defeats.
