Nandre Burger ruled out of Ireland's remainder ODI and Test series against Bangladesh

Pacer Nandre Burger of South Africa will miss the next two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Ireland and the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh due to a lumbar stress response.

“Burger experienced discomfort in his lower back, and subsequent scans revealed the injury,” Cricket South Africa said in an official statement on Friday, shortly before the second ODI against Ireland in Abu Dhabi got underway.

Nandre Burger successor for the third and final ODI of the series has not yet been confirmed.

however CSA did say that a replacement would be “announced in due course” for the Test matches against Bangladesh in Dhaka and Chattogram. For the forthcoming Tests against Bangladesh, the Proteas have Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder as their pace-bowling options.

Tony De Zorzi is absent from Ireland’s second ODI.

According to CSA, Tony de Zorzi, a top-order batsman, sustained “a soft tissue injury to his right knee” and was unable to make the XI during the current ODI. Kyle Verreynne was considered for the de Zorzi position.

In the first ODI, De Zorzi injured his knee trying to slip in the sandy outfield, which caused him to leave the pitch right away. The team management decided to rest him from the second ODI as a precaution after MRI scans on Thursday revealed the type of the injury he had sustained.

In the series against Bangladesh, de Zorzi is probably going to open for Aiden Markram. Temba Bavuma, the captain, David Bedingham, and one of the wicketkeeper-batters, Ryan Rickelton or Kyle Verreynne, will make up the middle-order for the series.

In the current World Test Championship cycle, South Africa has six Tests remaining. The Proteas must win five of the six matches, according to math calculations, in order to have a chance to play in the tournament final at Lord’s, which is scheduled to start on June 11 of the following year.
