Bangladesh’s Test team is being led by Najmul Shanto, who was reappointed. According to a statement released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Najmul Shanto will continue to lead the team till the conclusion of the current 2025–2027 World Test Championship cycle.
Following a series loss to Sri Lanka earlier in the year, Najmul Shanto had resigned as Test captain. He had also captained Bangladesh in every format. But in 2025, Najmul Shanto resigned from his position in the T20I.
Najmul Shanto declared that “the greatest pride of his life” is being the nation’s leader in the longest format. “It was an exciting prospect to lead a squad with the potential that the team possesses,” he added.
It is a great honor for me to continue to captain the Bangladesh Test squad, and I am incredibly appreciative of the Board’s confidence in me. The greatest pride I have ever had in my life is being my country’s Test cricket captain. Najmul Shanto said, “I will do everything in my power to repay the responsibility that has been entrusted to me,” according to a BCB social media announcement.
“It is a pleasure to be in charge of a group with so much quality and promise, and I think the upcoming season will be interesting and fruitful. A busy and significant time for Bangladesh Test cricket is about to begin, and we are looking forward to the series against Ireland later this month,” he continued.
Two Test matches have been played by Bangladesh in the current WTC cycle. Each of them has lost and drawn, and they have not yet recorded a victory. The home series versus Ireland, which consists of two games, is an ideal way to gain momentum before a hectic cycle. For those who are not familiar, the series versus Ireland is not included in the WTC cycle.
In relation to Najmul Shanto, he is not playing at his best right now.
The three ODIs he played against Afghanistan and the West Indies saw him score just 103 runs. For Shanto and Bangladesh, it will be crucial that he begins to contribute.
