Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Shanto, the first Bangladeshi cricketer to ever smash multiple twin tonnes in Test cricket, has written history in Galle.
On the fifth day of the match against Sri Lanka, Shanto hammered 148 in the first innings and followed it up with an undefeated 125 in the second. Nearly two years have passed since Shanto’s first twin century, which he achieved in June 2023 in Mirpur versus Afghanistan.
Although destroying twin tonnes in a test is an impressive feat in and of itself, Shanto has entered a somewhat exclusive group by smashing several twin tonnes. Even players like Joe Root, Virat Kohli, and Steve Smith can’t hit many twin tonnes in a test match. Actually, this is something that very few Asian hitters have accomplished.
Aravinda de Silva (SL) is an Asian hitter who has multiple twin tonnes in Test matches.
