AFG vs BAN: Najmul Hossain Shanto to miss 3rd ODI due to groin injury

Afghanistan and Bangladesh are now at a 1-1 draw in their three-match ODI series, with the final set for November 11 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh has suffered a severe blow ahead of the pivotal match as captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will miss the third ODI due to a groin ailment.

Shanto sustained a fielding injury on November 9 during the second ODI against Afghanistan. After being taken for scans, it was discovered that the southpaw would not be able to play because of his groin injury. Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, top selector for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), attested to this.

Gazi Ashraf, the top selector, informed The Daily Star that Shanto would not be playing in the third ODI because of an injury.

I’m not happy, to be completely honest: Najmul Hossain Shanto

He helped Bangladesh win the toss in the second ODI and batted a vital 76 runs off 119 balls prior to the injury. While he was at the crease, he hit six boundaries and one maximum. Afghanistan was bowled out for just 184 runs after the Bangla Tigers posted a goal of 253 runs. Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took two wickets, while Nasum Ahmed took three.

“I feel a little better, but something (a fitness problem?) persists. Will have to wait until the next game. I’m not happy, to be completely honest. Given that the surface was challenging against spin, I probably need to bat a little bit longer. Bravo to Miraz and Nasum for their bowling performance. And how Taskin took Gurbaz to start us off with the new ball.
