Reports: Karun Nair on selectors' radar after consistent performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy

With many young players entering the game, the Indian squad is going through a bit of a transitional period. One of the main issues facing the BCCI has been the declining performance of veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma; as a result, the team will need to consider some other players.

Reports from the Hindustan Times state that several domestic players have fallen under the selection committee’s notice as a result of Virat and Rohit’s lack of impact in the most recent Test series. Vidarbha captain Karun Nair is one among the players mentioned in the report. The 33-year-old batsman, who last played for his country in 2017, is credited with becoming the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to reach a triple century in Test cricket.

As of right now, Nair is the greatest run scorer with 664 runs, including five hundreds, throughout the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Given that he has only been kicked out once during the competition, Nair also has an average of 664. For Karun Nair, who was going through a bit of a tough patch in his career 13 months ago in December 2022 when he made an impassioned tweet requesting another opportunity, this is encouraging.

In December 2022, Nair posted on X (previously Twitter) the message, “Dear cricket, give me one more chance.”

In an interview with National Daily, the right-handed batsman recently produced a spectacular century against Rajasthan, advancing his team to the semi-finals where they will play Maharashtra on January 16.

“When I sent that tweet, it was an emotional moment,” the Vidarbha captain remarked.

Even though Karun Nair’s record triple century against England in 2017 may have ended his involvement in international cricket, he still has a lot of numbers in domestic cricket. His first-class cricket average is 48.64, while his List-A cricket average is 40.17.
