During the current first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, Nahid Rana was fined 25% of his match earnings for committing a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The issue has to do with anything that happened on Day 1. Nahid Rana fielded the ball during his follow-through on the fifth ball of the 27th over of the Irish innings, then threw it illegally at Cade Carmichael, the third batsman. He was struck on the pads by the ball. But Carmichael had remained in his crease, and Nahid Rana response appeared to be motivated by irritation.
Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel was violated by the right-arm pacer, who was found guilty. During an international match, the provision refers to “throwing a ball (or any other piece of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner.”
Nahid Rana disciplinary record now has one demerit point added to it, making it his first offence in a 24-month span.
Since the fast bowler had accepted the punishment from match referee Andy Pycroft, there was no need for a formal hearing. Third umpire Richard Illingworth, fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed, and on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski made the official accusation.
For those who are unaware, Level 1 violations are punishable by at least an official censure. The maximum penalty is one or two demerit points plus a 50% fine of the player’s match fee.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque are undefeated with 169 off 283 and 80 off 124, respectively, giving Bangladesh a 52-run lead at Stumps on Day 2. The only batsman dismissed was Shadman Islam (80 off 104).
Regarding Nahid’s performance during the game, Paul Stirling was the target of his lone wicket. As the tourists were bowled out for 286 in 92.2 overs, Stirling, who was removed after batting 60 off 76, became Ireland’s leading scorer.
