When Bangladeshi pace sensation Nahid Rana made his T20I debut against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah on Monday, May 19, he was given a reality check in the shortest format.
The UAE tied the three-match series with a two-wicket victory against the visitors, their first T20I triumph over Bangladesh.
Nahid Rana, who is perhaps the fastest bowler in the nation, made his T20I debut in the match as well.
There was a lot of excitement surrounding Nahid Rana T20I debut, and he has had a strong start in Tests and ODIs. But he started his debut appearance in the format with two straight no-balls, the second of which was a six-run beamer.
The right-arm pacer gave up 50 runs in his four overs, falling short of expectations. Despite having conceded 18 runs in his opening over, he took two wickets at the end.
Rana’s start was far from ideal, as he appeared inconsistent in his quest for more pace rather than adhering to the fundamentals. The hitters appeared well-prepared with his short-ball strategy, so the hosts took full advantage of it. Mohammad Waseem (82) often played Rana square of the wicket, taking use of his speed.
Litton remarked, “We expected more from him,” in reference to their speedster.
“You have good days and terrible days as a cricket player. He continued by saying that the team needs to be more strategic in their bowling strategies, particularly in light of the effects of dew. “We’ll sit down, talk things out, and come back stronger tomorrow,” he said.
“You have to be strategic with your bowling when you play on a particular type of ground, which is small and where dew becomes a significant impact. For various hitters, you need different plans,” he stated.
After losing by two wickets, Litton Das acknowledged that his team made some errors in the field and questioned their bowling in the middle overs.
“Every loss hurts,” he added during the ceremony for the presentation. Nevertheless, we played excellent batting on this wicket. “The pitch was excellent,” Litton remarked.
“I believe that the dew gave them a small edge when they batted. We did our best, though. We made a few errors when bowling in the middle overs and in the field’, he continued.
