Former cricket player Nafees Iqbal of Bangladesh had a brain haemorrhage
Nafees Iqbal, a former batter for Bangladesh and the brother of Tamim Iqbal, is being monitored at the Dhaka Hospital following a brain haemorrhage.

He was taken to Dhaka in the afternoon via air ambulance after developing the illness on Friday, July 5 in Chattogram. He is currently receiving treatment in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

During the T20 World Cup, Nafees Iqbal managed Bangladesh’s logistics and for the past few days, he had been complaining of a headache. He recently travelled back to Bangladesh with the rest of the team.

The chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Debashis Chowdhury, announced the news of Nafees’ illness, saying that he is safe and will need a few weeks to fully recover.

Experts have advised us that Nafees has blood clots in that area of his brain and is afflicted with cerebral venous thrombosis. Now he is steady. His guidelines are sound. He’s going to be here for a few days longer. They’ve promised a full recovery if things don’t go worse. On the first day, he needs to be watched very carefully. Debashis Chowdhury was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “He might be moved to a ward soon, but these things take a few weeks.”

It is noteworthy that Jalal Yunus, the director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief executive, and a number of players, including Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mashrafe Mortaza, paid Iqbal a visit at the hospital in Dhaka. Akram Khan, the current director of the BCB and a former captain of Bangladesh, is the nephew of Iqbal.

The former hitter played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs between 2003 and 2006, with the majority of his appearances coming in first-class cricket (he played 120 matches for Chattogram). He has spent the last two years managing the Bangladeshi national side.
