During a post-match news conference in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi did not hold back when a reporter attempted to bring him into the recent Mustafizur-KKR IPL issue.
Mohammed was addressing the media following the Noakhali Express’s BPL match against the Dhaka Capitals when the event occurred. He was then questioned by a reporter from Bangladesh about the continuing controversy surrounding Mustafizur’s release from the IPL prior to the 2026 tournament.
When asked, a visibly dissatisfied Nabi responded that he was unrelated to the matter. While acknowledging Mustafizur’s skill as a bowler, he emphasised that the question was inappropriate.
“Iska merese kya lena dena bhai. Mera Mustafizur se kya kaam hai? Me kya kaam hai mera politics? (How am I involved with it? What connection do I have to Mustafizur? Nabi said, “I have nothing to do with politics.”
“I am aware of his skill as a bowler, among other things. But it has nothing to do with me, the way you’re asking,” he said.

In accordance with directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mustafizur was dropped from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2026 roster. That has been discussed, and if the ICC does not move their matches outside of India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has even threatened to withdraw from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Nabi plays professional cricket alongside his son and makes history.
Nabi and Eisakhil became the first father-son team to play together during the Noakhali Express vs. Dhaka Capitals game, making history. They even formed a short-lived batting partnership.
Nabi responded passionately to a question about what it was like to play with his son while lauding his innings.
“Playing with my son makes me very happy. I’ve been looking forward to playing with him for a while. As a professional cricket player, I have prepared him. His debut performance was excellent. We were both in the same pitch. I was explaining to him what was going to happen and what the bowler would do. Will he bowl more slowly or more quickly? “He played really well, and he was waiting for those balls,” Nabi remarked.
Interestingly, Hassan Eisakhil’s 92 runs in 60 balls earned him the title of player of the match.
