Rohit Sharma has been termed the “dream captain” by middle-order batsman Shashank Singh of the Punjab Kings. He praised Rohit’s attitude while leading the team and praised him for supporting his players.
The reason Rohit enjoys a good rapport with his teammates, according to Shashank, is because of his tendency to keep things casual and his on-field banter with the players. Shashank mentioned playing alongside him while he was a member of the Mumbai team in domestic cricket. Shashank made an impression with his aggressive and strategic knocks for Punjab Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
The 33-year-old batting all-rounder stated that his aim is to play under the guidance of the two-time ICC trophy-winning captain Rohit, even though he would be playing under Shreyas Iyer, who was announced as the new captain for the Punjab-based team ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Everyone agrees that Rohit gives his players plenty of chances and supports them wholeheartedly. He is an extremely intelligent commander. He also had some amusing one-liners on the pitch. Rohit Sharma is the captain I would most like to play for, Shashank stated on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel. He hails from Bombay. I’ve batted with him once as well. Back then, he wasn’t the captain. It is my desire to play under his direction.

From ‘accidental buy’ to hero for the Punjab Kings: The inspirational tale of Shashank Singh
In the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings selected Shashank under suspicious circumstances after they apparently bid for him in the accelerated round because they were confused and thought he was another player with the same name. The franchise later clarified, though, that the Shashank they ultimately chose was always on their target. In the end, he was signed for INR 20 lakhs, which was his base price.
He ended up becoming the team’s top run scorer, scoring 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65 in 14 games, despite the aforementioned incidents. He went on to become one of their finest players of the season.
Because of this, Shashank was one of just two players that Punjab Kings kept before the 2025 auction, where he was valued at INR 5.50 crore. After the previous season, it is safe to assume that he has earned the franchise’s trust.
