The Ranji Trophy team for the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) quarterfinal match versus Haryana been revealed. The game is set to start on February 8 at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli, Rohtak. For this crucial match, the reigning champions have included all-rounder Shivam Dube and India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav in their side.
Mumbai finished second in Elite Group A with 29 points, making them the most successful team in Ranji Trophy history with 42 titles.
They easily defeated Meghalaya in their last league game, which was necessary to advance to the knockout stages. Shardul Thakur’s all-around performance was vital in that triumph. Mumbai, who are currently facing Haryana, who won Group C, is in the top half of the table despite not playing at their best.
Suryakumar, who scored just 28 runs in five games during his disastrous T20I series against England, will try to regain his form in the red-ball format. Surya will play domestic cricket again soon as India has less T20I obligations. He participated in one Ranji Trophy game earlier in the season, but he spent most of his time playing white-ball cricket, which helped Mumbai win the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
However, after taking Nitish Kumar Reddy’s place in the squad due to injury, Dube had a respectable T20I series, making a half-century in Pune. He took wickets as well. However, he was dismissed for a couple in his final Ranji outing against Jammu & Kashmir, which ended poorly.
Mumbai has announced an 18-member squad led by Ajinkya Rahane. Apart from Suryakumar and Dube, the team has the likes of Shardul Thakur and Shams Mulani, alongside young talents such as Tanush Kotian, Ayush Mhatre, and Suryansh Shedge. Harsh Tanna has also been included, replacing Shreyas Gurav.
